so i finally found out where i am living: willard hall. it wasn't supposed to be a dorm this year, they were gonna make it into office space, but decided to delay that a year. and as it is, willard hall is one part of a big administration building. sounds kinda crappy! and... as i joked around before that i would get a roommate who is the COMPLETE opposite of me... well it's true, haha. i think it'll be okay. we're a lot different, but i think we'll get along fine.
umm... we went to see DSO at mishawaka on saturday night. the original plan was to take a trip to aspen to see them, but that fell through. mishawaka is about 30 min outside of fort collins, so it wasnt that far. the openers were hot buttered rum string band (we didnt get to see them really) and kan'nal, from lovely boulder. kan'nal's set was fun, high energy... but the stage is so tiny they didn't really have space for the dancers. so the last "song" they played was a jam, and then the fire dancer came out and she was standing RIGHT next to me. it was sooo cool. i've seem it before, but never up so close.
dark star was FUN. i thought they only played replicas of actual shows, but they busted out an original setlist that night. it was confusing at first cause i'd read on their site that the new keyboardist had a brent style/voice. but the first song, there was a woman on stage (donna jean) so... la!

i could not fucking believe they played Tons of Steel. i FUCKING HATE that song... oh my god. and its weird, the dead never really played it because it sucked, so i wouldnt have expected DSO to play it. but, ugh, poor judgment, they played it. they also played quite a few blues numbers which we werent really in the mood for. but 2nd set kicked serious ASS. a big old playin in the band sandwich, hehe. highlights of the show: Jack Straw opener (i looove that song), Touch of Grey, SHAKEDOWN (so damn funky), St. Stephen and the St Stephen > NFA > GDTRFB jam. i loooooove donna jean on those songs. and the girl that was singing the part was incredible. her voice was so good and so much like donna jean. even the encore would have sucked but her vocals were beautiful. (not a big fan of sing me back home...) anyways, it was definitely a fun show. next time we go to mishawaka (which might be soon cause karl denson is playing there soon) we're gonna camp out, cause its a long drive after such a long show. (our show went from about 8-2 lotsa music!)
i dunno what else. school is coming up really soon! i'm excited to meet my roommate and stuff. and go to my classes. and some parties. hehe. i'm gonna work now. peeeeeeeace!
